What is it that we all want? To make a heaping pile of cash-money all without leaving our house right!

I was reading an article over at HowStuffWorks.com about the top 5 ways to make money using the internet. Now I have been (trying) making money online for almost 1 & 1/2 years. This article has no money figures to throw out there, but we can be the judges in the long run here.

According to the site, the top5 way of making money online are:

5: Selling Stuff on eBay
4: Blogging
3. Designing and Selling T-shirts
2: Freelancing
1:Domain Name Flipping

#5 – Selling Stuff On Ebay

Ones man’s trash is another man’s fortune? That may be the case on ebay.

How can you take it further than just finding that old Micheal Jackson jacket that has been collecting dust balls since your High school days, after all what happens when you run out of junk to sale? FIND MORE JUNK!

One solution I found online was interesting. This person was capable of generating $1,000 in a month through ebay by going to garage sales, finding things he thought was worth money and placing those items on ebay hoping to be sold for more than he purchased for.

Verdict: FACT

#4 – Blogging

This one is somewhat misleading, for it seems that if you simply start a blog with the intent to make money, you will fail. Most successful blogs seem to go through some sort of evolution. Someone is passionate about somthing – > they start a blog – > pour heart & soul into blog – > blog gains followers – > 6 months go by -> start making money $$$.

The moral here is yes, you can make money from blogging, but its going to take time, a little money (get your domain name and maybe a designer) and you most be patient. The biggest blogs don’t start making money until years later.

Verdict: FACT (but it won’t come quick)

#3 – Designing & Selling T-Shirts

What? Designing a damn T-Shirt? I don’t buy this for a second. I don’t see my 401k & IRA growing over the next 2-3 years because of T-Shirt sales.

The idea I imagine is design shirts, find stores or create your own to sale your design, and you get a rip from each shirt sold. You will be spending a ton of time desiging and trying to think of clever little catch phrases for your t-shirt, so unless your designing the next 3-Wolve-Moon t-shirt, I would stay far away!

Verdict: MYTH

#2 – Freelancing

Do you have skills? Skills that pay the bills? If you do have skills, working on projects in your free time (guess its not free time anymore) can bring in some extra money each month.

Web design, writing copy, 3d development, graphic design, and the list goes on. There are a plethora of areas that constantly hiring freelance designers. If you have the skills, then get to work!

Verdict: FACT

#1 – Flipping Domain Names

This is interesting, and maybe a bit outdated. (I couldn’t find a date on the article) Are you seriously saying that I should be reading the dictionary to claim every word of any significance, oh and any word I can put a MY, E, or I in front of (iPooped?).

Its strange though, I own about 10 domain names and randomly I received an email from someone asking if one was for sale. We negotiated for about 2 weeks on a price and then BAM, a check was cut, but in reality I think the tide has already turned on this online money maker.

Verdict: MYTH(This ship has saled)

I agree on the t-shirt thing whole-heartedly. I stepped into this briefly and the only t-shirt that I sold was to my Dad buying one for my sister!
